Back Massage

People who get chronic back pain will tell you that it is a life-altering ailment. It has serious implications on the ease of carrying out daily activities. Back pain sufferers can feel completely disabled by their condition and are prone to depression.

Back pain is one of the most common ailments in adults and it can be caused by something simple as a poor lifting habit or even poor sleeping habits. This type of pain really has no boundaries and can last from hours to months. That is a long time for someone to suffer this type of pain and it can be very excruciating.

Treatment can include pills, and therapy, and braces, and acupuncture. However, one method stands out as being effective in helping people with their back pain: massage therapy.

Massage therapy for back pain is a low risk, and non-invasive method of treatment. Not only will this method help in the pain aspect, it also aids in the release of natural chemicals the body produces known as Endorphins.

Historically, the use of massage therapy was not readily accepted by conventional medicine as a treatment of back pain or any other pains for that matter. However, the medical society now accepts this method as a valid complementary treatment, recognising the many therapeutic benefits that it brings.

The aim of massage therapy is quite simple; it increases circulation and blood flow that the affected area with the muscles needs. This stimulates the rejuvenation of the tissues and muscles surrounding the affected area, promoting a relaxed and stress-less flow of blood. Many times people that have back problems; they are not quite sure why they have them. Some feel they have not had an injury to any muscles in the back area so they should not be suffering.

Therapeutic Massage & It's Benefits

While the practice of therapeutic massage has been used for centuries in the east, it is a relatively recent phenomenon South Africa. More and more people are looking towards complimentary therapies and non-invasive treatments for their ailments.  Massage therapy is gaining in popularity.

Balancing Touch offers a service to business people in that we visit the premises at an appropriate time and do the massages in situ. Head, shoulder and Neck massages are very nice and enjoyable and it is not necessary to remove any clothing. This can be done at the desk, boardroom or any suitable space

A number of studies have shown that massage therapy is a highly effective stress reduction technique.  An earlier study, conducted by the University of Miami Medical School and published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child Adolescent Psychiatry, suggested that children receiving 30 minutes of therapeutic massage daily were less depressed and anxious than they were at the time of their admittance.Massage plays a vital role in the reduction of stress as discovered during this study.

Some physicians and researchers have suggested that stress is responsible for over 75% of all disease in the western world, including skin disorders, high blood pressure, headaches, digestive ailments, muscle pain, and depression.  By employing massage techniques and other holistic healing approaches it is possible to reduce stress and its side effects.

Balancing Touch offers a range of massage techniques and healing treatments that will resolve most disorders created by stress. We are not medical practitioners but rather believers in the connection between mind, body and spirit . Call Elena on 041-468-1999

Stress Relief

By definition stress is a psychological and physiological response to any event that upsets our personal sense of balance and comfort. Stress relief techniques can bring you life back into balance.

At Balancing Touch we endeavour that all of our clients leave in a relaxed state, fully relieved from the tensions that caused them stress .

Since any sort of change causes stress, then, people should just accept that stress is a fact of life that we all have to live with.  But what exactly is stress?

Stress is a psychological and physiological response to events that upset our personal balance in some way. There is good stress and bad stress. Good stress gives you the motivation to do your best when cramming for exams, or preparing for a job presentation.

However, when things get out of hand and life's demands exceed your ability to cope, stress becomes bad for your physical, emotional and psychological well-being.
You can feel the tension caused by stress in your shoulders and neck, as well as heart-pounding in the chest. You lose sleep, feel depressed, and get tired. When stress becomes long-term, it increases your risk for heart disease, mental distress, and weight gain.

Having a  regular fitness regimen is a good stress relief practice. Enjoying a walk in the park is one way to reduce stress. Sometimes, just learning to accept what you cannot change can help ease the burden of stress. Meditation and yoga are two stress relief techniques that help train your body to relieve stress.

Meditation and Reiki are ancient practices that have gained worldwide acceptance even in modern times. As a stress relief technique, meditation has the ability to produce relaxation response that helps reduce blood pressure, lift depression, and ease stress.

Another ancient practice that reduces stress and tension is yoga. It can lower blood pressure and levels of stress hormone called cortisol. You also boost flexibility, strength, endurance, and balance through yoga. As you work through the various poses, you must focus on inhaling and exhaling. Breath concentration is yoga's key to stress relief management. With this focus, you let go of external thoughts and anxiety.
Most adults go for a full-body massage, not only for pleasure, but for its stress relief benefits.

Massage therapy can be effective for a variety of conditions, including arthritis, lower back pain, insomnia, headaches, anxiety, circulatory problems, and recovery from a sports injury. Good coping skills were associated with better levels of the so-called “good” cholesterol or high-density lipoprotein (HDL). The better a person copes with stress, the better chances there are of attaining a “good” cholesterol level.  Stress and hostility affect a person's cholesterol levels.
